Eateries in Bedok where you can grab a bite

By Chan Khee Hoon

With the construction of Bedok Mall, Bedok Point, and the soon-to-be-completed Heartbeat @ Bedok, the neighbourhood of Bedok has changed from a quiet suburb to a bustling heartland, filled with delicious eateries and foodies hunting for a sumptuous meal. From buzzing restaurants to quaint cafés, you are more likely to be overwhelmed by the sheer variety of food than find yourself starved for choices.

Just so you no longer need to fret about what to have for a fuss-free meal out with families and friends, we have picked out some of our favourite eateries in the area. These places are either halal-certified or serve dishes that are made without pork or lard—so Muslims families can dine at these establishments too.

1. FATCAT Ice Cream bar
(416 Bedok North Avenue 2, #01-25, Singapore 460416)

Despite being tucked away between several neighbourhood shops, FATCAT has nonetheless earned a reputation amongst dessert lovers. The ice cream bar has become famous for its
waffles, such as the Gourmet Charcoal Waffles with Salted Egg Yolk Sauce, and its freshly made ice cream – think all-time-favourites like Vanilla and Chocolate, and more exotic ones such as Sea Salt Matcha and Hay & Honey. To keep its menu fresh, FATCAT often comes up with seasonal dishes and plated desserts.

2. Spize
(336 Bedok Road, Bedok Shopping Complex)

A big hit among those who live in the east, Spize’s enormous menu is made up of a multitude of cuisines, including Singaporean, Thai, Indian, Indonesian, Western, and Mediterranean dishes. With so many offerings to choose from, it is no wonder that the place is always crowded. For starters, try out the classic Spize “Star” Burger—fried egg, caramelised onions, melted cheese, and a handmade beef patty—all served between a pair of toasted sesame brioche buns.

3. Badoque
(298 Bedok Road, Singapore 469454)

From Asian fusion to Greek fare, Badoque’s mouth-watering dishes has become popular among local diners. More than just serving unreservedly great food, like its Spaghetti with Salmon Belly and Beef Ribs, this café stands out from its peers due its impeccable service and relaxed ambience. When taking orders, waiters will kneel to meet their customers’ eyes, and they will even remember your name if you drop by for a second visit.

4. Angalia’s
(537 Bedok North Street 3, #01-525, Singapore 460537)

A family-run bakery, Angalia’s whips up a delicious array of cakes and cupcakes daily, with flavours including Salted Caramel Mudslide, Nutella Fudge, Red Velvet, Gula Melaka Coconut, and Cookies & Cream. If you need a customized cake for a special occasion, Angalia’s is only too happy to oblige as well.

5. Fish Tales
(351 Bedok Rd, Singapore 469539)

Looking to line your stomach with seafood, but your wallet’s feeling a bit thin? Fish Tales is your best bet. With four different Fish & Chips varieties to choose from—the Original Fish and Chips, Fiery Sambal, Cheesy Affair, and Beaurre Au Citron, a dish drizzled in garlic, lemon and butter sauce—you will definitely find a meal that tickles your fancy.

6. Tang Tea House
(357 Bedok Rd, Singapore 469545)

Dim sum devotees may find the notion of their favourite dishes served without pork unthinkable, but this halal-certified Hong Kong café has proven many naysayers wrong. Offering quality Hong Kong bites alongside crowd-pleasing Chinese cuisine like Beef Brisket Noodles and Chicken Rice, Tang Tea House has become a favourite haunt for many Bedok residents.
